Home Remedies For Arthritis

arthritis1 The word Arthritis is derived from the Greek words Athron and itis. Athron means joints and itis means inflammation. Simply, arthritis is a disease of joints where pain and inflammation prevails and in some cases, stiffness is observed.

Although arthritis has various forms, the most common types are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis. The former is prevalent in the old age group while the latter is more prevalent among women and found to occur in all age groups. Rheumatoid arthritis affects the joints of the fingers, wrists, hips, knees, and feet. It also affects the muscles, tendons and other tissues of the body. Since severe pain accompanies the disease, it is a very painful situation which slowly covers the whole body.

There are several home remedies available for the disease. Some of the most useful processes are discussed here.

Using Potato

Potato juice therapy is one of the most useful and oldest treatments available for arthritis. In the traditional process slices of potato, without peeling off the skin, are kept in a large bowl overnight with water. The juice formed due to this is drunk in the morning. In another process a medium sized potato is diluted with a cup of water overnight and is later consumed first at breakfast.

Using other raw juices

A cup of green juice from a green leafy vegetable mixed with equal proportions of carrot, celery and red beet juices is a valuable medicine for arthritis. Pineapple juice is also useful for arthritis. Pineapple juice contains the enzyme bromelain which reduces swelling and inflammation caused by arthritis.

Using Garlic

Garlic is another affective home remedy for arthritis. Its anti inflammatory property is helpful in diminishing the inflammations in the joints. It can be taken raw or cooked, according to individual choice.

Using Banana

Banana is rich in Vutamin B6 which is helpful in getting rid of arthritis. For this purpose, the patient can take banana as the only food for three to four days. Individuals with arthritis can take eight to ten bananas every day for three to four days. In this process, the individuals should not take anything else except banana as food.


Using Lime

Lime is another useful fruit for fighting against arthritis. The juice of one fresh lime mixed with water should be taken as the first drink of the morning, preferably on an empty stomach for the purpose. The citric acid present in the lime acts against the uric acid (the reason behind arthritis) by diluting it.

Using the green gram soup

The green gram soup is one of the most used therapies against arthritis. The soup is prepared by mixing 1 tbsp of green gram and two crushed garlic cloves in a cup of water. The soup should be taken twice a day for three to four days a week.

Using Alfalfa

The Alfalfa tea is another remedy for arthritis. A cup of water and 1 tsp of Alfalfa is used to make the tea. Three to four cups if this should be taken for a period of two weeks for getting relief from arthritis.  The seeds of Alfalfa are found more useful for the process.

Using coconut and mustard oil

Warm coconut or mustard oil mixed with two to three pieces of Camphor can be used for message to get rid of arthritis. The message increases the blood circulation, thereby diminishing the inflammation and stiffness.

Using Calcium

Calcium can be used a remedy for the arthritis disease. It has been proven that regular intake of Calcium can provide relief from arthritis. For this purpose, 2 tsp of calcium lactate mixed with water may be taken before meals three times a day. This should be continued for a period of four to five months.

Using Copper

Copper also has healing capabilities for arthritis. For the purpose, water kept overnight in copper container is drunk, as a remedy against arthritis.  It is believed to strengthen the muscular system.

Apart from these simple home remedies, it should be borne in mind that with a little change in the habits, individuals can find quick relief from arthritis. For example one could take fresh salads as the food as much as possible. Moreover, no bandages should be used for the inflammations and the arthritic individuals should take rest in a room with proper indirect ventilation.
