Age spots are usually grey, black or brown flat spots found on the areas of skin exposed to sun, usually in individuals aged more than 40 years. These spots are harmless but are a major factor for annoyance as the spots can reveal the age.
They might sometimes look like cancerous growth but there is sea difference between an age spot and a cancerous tumor. Usually these spots are formed due to clumping of extra melanin, which protects the skin and gives its natural color, produced in the body. Lemon juice can be a simple remedy for age spots. Apply lemon juice with a cotton ball on the spots for a few months. However, when going out in the sun, the lemon juice applied must be dried as it can increase the sensitivity of the skin. The acid content of the juice helps the spots fade away.
For preparing a simple medicine for age spots use the mixture of 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice, 1/2 tsp vinegar, one tsp horseradish root and 3 drops rosemary essential oil. This may be applied twice daily on the age spots. This helps in lightening of the age spots as the top layer of the skin is peeled off in fragments.
The ancient process used by the Chinese to get rid of age spots includes the Chinese herb Gotu kola. For preparing the mixture take 1/8 tsp of powdered herb into a cup of herbal tea. It can also be added to plain hot water along with 1/8 tsp of ginseng and a little proportion of cayenne. This should be applied on affected areas for a few days.
The Aloe Vera juice is also an effective remedy for age spots. For quick results, the fresh Aloe Vera juice must be applied as a paste or gel on the age spots. This medicine should be used for two months, applying twice daily for quick relief.
Another important method to get rid of age spots uses apple cider vinegar. For preparing the gel use two tsp of apple cider vinegar to one tsp of orange juice. Apply it on the spots for a few days with the help of a cotton ball or a clean piece of cloth. This is an excellent process for diminishing the age spots and is widely used.
From ancient times, Bilberry herb has been used as an anti ageing agent. It shows the property of anti ageing agent by slowing down some of the aging processes. For preparing the medicine, use 4-8 oz. of fresh berries to get 80-160 mg of bilberry extract with 20-40 mg anthocyanosides daily. This should be applied on the spots daily with the help of a cotton pad. Bilberry also acts as an antioxidant and can be used on the spots for a few days for getting quick relief.
Another simple remedy for age spots is buttermilk. It has been used as a cleanser and beauty aid from ancient times. For getting rid of age spots apply buttermilk on the spots twice daily. The lactic acid content of buttermilk helps the spots dry away. Buttermilk can also be used for cleaning and moisturizing the skin.
Castor oil can also be used for removal of age spots. Apply castor oil on the spots, rubbing it well into the skin. This should be done twice daily for a month for getting positive results.
Garbanzo beans can also be used as a remedy for age spots. Mash about 1/3 cupful of the beans and add a little water. Apply this on the spots and leave it there until the paste dries up. Use this for a few days until the spots fade away.
Using these simple remedies one can easily get rid of age spots. Moreover, these techniques, being natural have no side effects and are a safer way to get rid of the spots. However, it should be kept in mind while applying the medicines that over usage of medicines, especially when it comes in contact with the skin may harm the skin. So, ample care should be taken when applying medicine to the spots.
