Herbal Tea for Good Health
The benefits of herbal tea have been known for over a thousand years, but it became popular in Western world quite recently. In the eastern countries, many people drink herbal tea as a daily routine. But not everyone knows what herbal tea actually is. Herbal tea is actually tea made using a mixture of leaves, dried flowers, roots or seeds, and not using tea leaves. To make herbal tea, the choice of the flower, root or leaf is boiled in water and then left to simmer for a while. Sweetener can also be added if desired.
Different Types of Herbal Tea
• Raspberry: It is one of the most popular flavors of herbal tea. It is believed to be quite effective in easing diarrhea.
• Persimmon: It is considered to be a great health drink and also works well as a Vitamin C supplement. However, it is not suitable for people who are trying to lose weight.
• Blueberry: Blueberry is often used for making herbal tea. However, it has a bitter taste and is effective in treating kidney problems.
• Birch: Herbal tea made using birch can be used to treat rheumatic problems and headaches. It is also effective in treatment of kidney disorders and fever. It is also great for oral hygiene.
• Sassafras: It is usually drunk for getting refreshment and enjoyment, but some people believe that it can be used for curing bronchitis.
Brew Your Herbal Tea Yourself
To make herbal tea for yourself, put leaves or flowers in a tea pot and pour boiling water over it. Cover the pot and allow it to simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. Strain the solution and add sweetener as per your individual taste. If you are making your herbal tea using a stem, root or seed, cut it finely into minute pieces and make a powder using it. Add a small amount of this powder into boiling water. Let is stand for about 20 minutes before straining. Your refreshing and healthy herbal tea will be ready for your savoring.
