Healthy Weight Loss
Weight is quite a touchy topic for most people. And when we are bombarded with the perfect figure or toned muscles of a model through different mediums, it is sure to leave a desire in us. And in most cases this is where most health problems start.
Crash diets, starvation and excessive exercising are what most do to get that right weight. The right weight can be reduced by using the Body mass index (BMI) which measures body fat based on height and weight, and is a reliable indicator of body fatness. Once the required weight loss is determined, a combination of food and exercise will do the trick.
The food we consume contains simple and complex carbohydrates, which converts into glucose (sugar), our body’s energy source, upon digestion. Complex carbohydrates break down slowly and provide a gradual release of energy throughout the day.
On the other hand, simple carbohydrates release instant energy in the body. Combinations of simple and complex carbohydrates will nourish the body. Hence a good understanding of what constitutes a healthy eating diet is essential to a healthy weight loss.
Eating correctly actually helps to shed excess weight! Split your meals into 5-6 meals a day, to keep the body replenished. While it is perfectly fine to grab a packet of chips and an aerated drink once in a while, do not make a habit out of it. Include whole grains products, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, yogurt, nuts and legumes, and keep at bay refined cereals, processed meals, aerated drinks, and sugar based products.
Burning the calories appropriately is also essential to a healthy weight loss program. However, one should adhere to a few exercising rules. For starters, start with simple exercises such as walking, bicycling, jogging and/or swimming for not more than half an hour a day, and under guidance, gradually increase the hours and types of exercises.
Simple lifestyle changes such an avoiding the elevator or walking an extra mile and hobbies such as gardening, trekking, etc will help energize the body. Healthy weight loss should be gradual, for the body needs time to acclimatize to it.
It is best to consult a dietitian, especially those who have medical conditions to ensure that the body is not depleted of the vital minerals and nutrients. Healthy weight loss programs will yield desired results, the healthy way.
