Head Louse

head-liceHead louse is also known as lice. This insect releases a substance that makes the scalp itchy and the host has to scratch very now and then. There are times when the constant scratching can make the area inflamed and even cause secondary infections. If you are scratching your hair every now and then it might be possible that you have louse in your hair rather than a mere case of dandruff.

There are some people who believe that louse thrives on hair that is dirty. This is not true anyone can catch it if you come in touch with some one who has hair louse. It can also be transmitted with infested bedding and towels.  There are some excellent home remedies, which can be used to remove louse from your hair and stop its further breeding.

Olive oil is not only good for your hair but can be a very effective remedy to get rid of louse as well. You have to massage your hair well with olive oil and let the oil stay on your scalp and hair for about nine to ten hours and then wash your hair.

Garlic is known to be an excellent anti oxidant when one teaspoon of garlic is mixed with one teaspoon of lime juice and applied to the hair for a couple of hours. It successfully eliminates any traces of louse.

The eggs of the louse seem to cause more problem than the lice. It is more difficult to get rid of them. After your shampoo you can mix half cup of warm water with an equal amount of vinegar. Apply this on the scalp and cover it with a shower cap for about 15 to 20 minutes. There are some special combs available in pharmacies for the louse uses that after washing the hair.

There are some precautions that you can take to avoid the spreading of louse. If you see eggs on your hair then start using the home remedies and ask the other member of your families to also use it so that it does not spread to them.

Vinegar can be an answer to a lot of hair woes. Wash your hair with vinegar; it helps to kill all the nits as well in two days. The other effective way to reduce head louse is to take around eight to ten almonds and grind them to a paste along with two to three teaspoon of limejuice. Rub it on the scalp and let it stay for about half an hour. Then wash your hair accordingly.

Whenever you shampoo your hair add some head louse repellant essential oils like Tea Tree, Germanium, Rosemary and Eucalyptus. Apply coconut oil and this on your head and after that shampoo and condition. Adding around 10 to 15 drops of Tea Tree oil your shampoo and then using this will effectively treat all lice within two days.

Making a solution of different oils can be very helpful. Add five drops of citrus essential oil, along with 10 drops of eucalyptus oil along with the same amount of Germanium oil and around 20 drops of lavender oil. This has to be added along with 20 drops of Rosemary oil and five drops of Tea Tree Oil. Add around 100ml of vegetable oil to it. Apply this on dry hair and then keep it covered in a shower cap for about two to three hours.

If you so not have Tea Tree Oil available with you then infusing juniper berries in a bottle of cider vinegar, apply this on the scalp everyday. This will prevent the infestation. A very effective remedy to be used on the other member of the family and the louse will not be transferred to them.

You can rub some alcohol on the scalp and let it stay on the head for about half an hour. The alcohol will help to get rid of the nits as well as the louse. Repeat this treatment in a week; just remember that this has to be followed by a very heavy conditioning, as this will dry the hair further.

Mayonnaise is not only an excellent conditioner but when applied on the hair and the scalp for an hour, it helps to kill the live louse, though it may not be very effective on the nits. Rinse this well and then use a fine-toothed comb to get the nits and lice as well.

This may not be a very comfortable ingredient to apply on the hair but it is sure effective way. Put Vaseline on the hair and then keep a shower cap on overnight. In the morning you can peanut butter to get rid of the vaseline completely. This will help all the lice and nits to come out.
