Hair Care- Oil Treatment
Remember all those times when mom used to chide us about our frizzy hair and ask us to oil it repeatedly? Her incessant rambling about the advantages of oiled hair used to drive us up the wall. Well, for your information, mom might just have been right!
For a healthy hair not only requires regular shampooing, combing and trimming. It also needs regular oil treatments. And if you are wondering about how to start the process, here are a few quickies on facts you probably need to know about oiling your hair the right way!
Is it best considered to use cool oil or hot oil for a massage? Well that’s a tricky question. The answer depends on the condition of the skin on your scalp.
However, recent trends have indicated that hot oil treatments work for all skin types and this may be a reason as to why these treatments are becoming quite a rage these days.
Many celebrities have resorted to hot oil treatments to maintain the shine, length and lusture of their manes. Most of these hot oil treatments start with hot oil massages which are followed by steaming, shampooing and conditioning sessions.
While these services are available in all leading beauty salons around the world, you can opt for a hot oil treatment right at home, once every week to be precise (twice if you have dry hair).
You don’t need to opt for intense conditioning though. A good hot oil massage followed by a bath in lukewarm water where you shampoo and condition your hair is more than enough to do the trick.
The best way to make sure that the oil spreads throughout your hair right from the roots to the tips is to rub it in properly. This you can do by making partitions in your hair and rubbing in the warm oil over the scalp.
Once you cover the entire scalp, work down to the tips. Massage continuously for about 10 minutes to make sure that your hair absorbs the oil properly. Leave the oil on for another 30 minutes.
After the stipulated half hour is over, wrap a hot towel around your head for about 6 minutes. This action enables the pores in the scalp to open, thus giving ample amount of space for the oil to move through.
All you need to do after this is follow up with a good shampoo and conditioner to cleanse out excess oil if any. And voila! You will be left with gorgeous hair you never thought you could get!
Here is a good recipe for a hair oil treatment that you can do at home. All you need would be 1 ½ cups of normal hair oil, about 5-6 drops of frankincense essential oil and a shower cap.
The first thing you would need to do is prepare the oil for the massage and this you need to do 24 hours before the treatment. Accordingly, pour the natural hair oil and the essential oil into a jar and mix them up properly. Place the jar in a cool dark place and take it out the next day (after 24 hours).
Before opening the bottle, make sure to shake it properly to mix both oils. And make it a point to rinse your hair slightly with warm water.
Pour out one tablespoon of the oil into a large spoon, heat it until the oil becomes warm and then massage the oil into the scalp. Use only your fingertips for the massage and make circular motions.
After completely covering the scalp, use the remaining oil to massage the ends of your hair. Remember, they are sensitive as well and more prone to developing split ends.
Use the shower cap to cover your scalp completely. You can secure the cap in place with the help of clips or pins. Keep the cap on for about 30 minutes before you take a bath.
