• Those who wash their face with hot water frequently often face the problem of dry skin because hot water washes away all the oil from the skin and makes it dry.
• Using harsh, non-moisturizing soap de-hydrates the skin and reduces moisture from the body.
• Extreme weather, both hot as well as cold, also causes dryness to the skin.
• Some strong medicines remove water from the body and contribute to dry skin.
• A rare genetic disease called Ichtosishy can also be the cause of dryness of skin.
Care for Dry Skin
If your skin is dry, do not wash your face and hands frequently and avoid taking long baths with lukewarm water. Do not bath with hot water to avoid dryness. For washing your face, use anti-pruritic products like oatmeal or pine oil.
Use an oil-based moisturizing soap for bathing instead of alcohol based soap. Use oil and glycerin based lotions for home facial. Gradually your skin will store moisture and heal itself.
Maintain room temperature during winter by using humidifier for required humidity for preserving moisture in your skin.
Eat healthy and balance food.
Do regular exercise, and make sure to drink enough fluids.
Home Remedies
To treat your dry skin, you can get plenty of materials right from your kitchen shelf. Yoghurt, honey, milk, eggs and oatmeal are some products that are easily available in your kitchen. Use them as a natural cleanser and moisturizer.
• To moisturize your skin mix two spoon honey and 3-4 spoon cold milk together and apply on your face, neck and hands and feet.
• To get relief from itching skin apply cold milk on your face with a piece of cloth and keep it for 5 minutes.
• Make a home made lotion using the pulp of the fruits like cucumber, banana, apricot, mango, green tea leaf and grapes along with honey and milk. This lotion will bring the required moisture in your skin within few days.
