Golden Rules For Using Perfume
It is normal to reach out for the fragrance we like best, and just douse ourselves with it before we leave home. There is a huge science behind the formulation and use of perfumes, and it is important to have at least a little understanding of it, so that we chose what is best for us, and also use the perfume in the right way.
When you test a fragrance, start by using a little and smell it only after about ten seconds. You will have a fair idea about it’s smell. Smell it again after half an hour, and once again after about two hours. You must know that fragrances change over time with constant reaction to your skin.
Also, never buy something which smelt nice on your friend. Perfumes take on their fragrances after reacting with the skin. The same fragrance will smell differently on you because of your own body chemistry.
Avoid testing more than four perfumes at a store. This is more than the olfactory system can take, and you will only end up making a confused choice.
It is best to spray your perfume on cloth and not on the skin directly. When using perfume, keep the bottle at a distance of at least ten inches from your cloth while spraying.
It is common to rub the skin or the cloth surface with another after applying perfume. This should never be done as the composition of the perfume changes, and so will the fragrance. It is best to leave the perfume to air dry and let the fragrancesettle on its own.
If you are in places which have high humidity and are hot, it is best to avoid heavy smells like vanilla, or even caramel. Stick to fragrances which are more fruit infused and lighter as they will go better with the composition.
It is very bad to spray perfume directly onto your hair. Instead, spray perfume above you, and let the tiny drops of the perfume trickle onto the hair gently.
This is also the way you should get perfume onto your face as well. Spray perfume ahead of where you are, and walk into the cloud of perfume to get the fragrance onto your skin.
