Get Salon Quality Manicures at Home
Manicure is meant to enhance the look and feel of our hands. Women as well as men can enjoy the advantages of manicure. Who wouldn’t want to have properly groomed, soft and attractive hands? However, everyone doesn’t have the money or time to get a manicure done at a salon. The good news is that, not it is possible to get a salon quality manicure at home itself; using certain supplies that are easily available at home itself.
Step 1
The very first step of manicure is filing and shaping the nails. Nail files should never be used on wet nails. This is important because nails are more brittle when they are wet. The basic nails shapes include round, oval, square and pointed. The choice of the nail shape should depend on the shape of your finger. File from the corner and move towards the center. Avoid filing the sides as it can weaken the nails.
Step 2
Soak your hands in soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the skin of the hands. For people with dry skin, it is better to soak the hands in Vaseline or hand cream instead of soapy water.
Step 3
Exfoliate your hands using a combination of sugar or salt and soap. Keep the consistency of the mixture thick. In case you have a face or hand scrub handy at home, you can use that as well. Exfoliation can remove dry and dead skin cells and makes the skin soft. Rinse your hands.
Step 4
Push back the nail cuticles gently using an orangewood stick or a cuticle pusher. Avoid cutting the cuticles to eliminate the chances of infection and pain. Clean underneath the nails as well.
Step 5
Apply hand lotion liberally on both the hands and massage properly into the skin. Massage the palm of one hand using the other and vice versa. Use your thumb and massage around the nails and cuticles. Work the lotions to the elbows and arms as well. Wipe away the excess lotion.
Step 6
Apply clear coat or nail polish over the nails. Allow the nail polish to dry and then follow with a second coat.
Giving yourself a salon quality manicure at home at least once in a week will make your hands look and feel younger and healthier.
