Dry skin is represented mainly by low sebum levels due to which the skin has almost no moisture in it. Over drying of the skin can lead to bleeding and cracking in certain areas. The reasons behind dry skin are manifold, ranging from hereditary factors to inappropriate working of the oil glands. Let us take a look at some of the common reasons behind dryness of skin.
Causes of Dry Skin
A person can have dry skin due to genetic reasons. Usually it occurs, when the oil glands fail to supply adequate lubrication to our skin. Often our skin gets exposed to various unwanted elements during winter which causes it to dry. Exposure to different environmental factors like cold, wind, sun, cosmetics or chemicals can also lead to dryness of skin. Deficiency of certain nutrients in the diet such as Vitamin A and B complex can also play a big role in causing dryness of skin. An underactive thyroid gland, certain diabetic complication or drugs like antihistamines or diuretics can also cause dry skin.
Caring for Dry Skin
While cleaning your face, avoid using tap water directly as it contains various harmful deposits. Instead wash your face with mineral water. Avoid wiping with a rough washcloth. Every morning spray mineral water on your face using a clean plant sprayer. Dry skin needs to be protected more from the sun’s rays than any other type of skin. Never forget to use a moisturized as it increases the content of water in the outermost layers of the skin and gives a moist and soft look. Always wash your face with a neutral pH and non detergent face wash. Apply a little baby oil on the skin after each shower or bath.
