Foot Reflexology
City-life is fast paced and full of tension. Everything is by the clock and there is no time to waste dilly-dallying. Rushing from here to there, eating out, having late nights and overwork stresses everyone. What better way to de-stress than a foot reflexology session with experienced hands?
As the name denotes, the term ‘foot reflexology’ means ‘rubbing of the foot’. It is a science whereby several pressure points under your feet (i.e., on the soles) are pressed. This science is based on the fact that various points on the soles are connected to different parts of the body; and pressing (or massaging) these specific points is curative and helps in relaxing the body.
Foot reflexology is commonly used as a relaxation technique is South East Asia.
Every by-lane of Singapore and Indonesia has at least one ‘reflexi centre’ (as it is commonly called). The entire process ranges from 30-minutes to 90-minutes depending upon the level of ‘relexi’ sought. The 30-minute session is a quick massage over the main pressure points, whereas the longer sessions will include an in-depth massage of the feet, legs and other stress points on the body, namely, arms, legs, shoulder blades, neck, head, temples, etc. Basically the portion of the body that is left out is the abdomen and torso.
There is practically no preparation required for foot reflexology except for a pair of experienced hands and a comfortable chair (or lounger). Depending upon the reflexi centre, the reflexologist may use aroma oils or cream. Sometimes, the pressure points are pressed (massaged) with the finger tips and the thumb knuckle, or with a small tool that looks like a wooden stick. It is extremely important that reflexi is done by a trained person because if wrong pressure points are pressed, then other ailments can ensue. It is for this reason that professional centres ask customers to sign a form listing their specific ailments and medical problems. For example, a person with a problematic heart needs special focus at the heart pressure points.
