Essentials for a Guest Room
A house that receives many guests is considered lucky as the hosts are deemed to be warm and friendly people. Guests will visit if you and your home welcome them happily and make them comfortable. In order to achieve this, a room in the house can be converted into a guest room. If there are limited rooms and no specific room can be kept as a guest room at all times, then the guest room can be coupled with the TV room or the study room.
In homes with an extra room that can be converted into a guest room, the following essentials should be arranged so that the guests are comfortable:
Sleeping Arrangement
The room should have a double bed, twin beds or a sofa-cum-bed so that two people can sleep comfortably at any given time. Bunk beds or floor mattresses can be avoided as they are cumbersome, and it may inconvenience the guests to climb up to a bunk bed or sleep on floor level. Similarly, pillows should be of a medium variety (not too hard, large or flat).
Fragrance
Dusty and musty surroundings are never appreciated. The guest room should be well ventilated and have a pleasant fragrance. If need be, some incense, fragrance candles or potpourri can be placed in the room.
Entertainment
Guests visiting your home may have different sleep schedules from that followed by your family. In case they are late sleepers, some form of entertainment facility should be provided in the guest room so that they do not disturb anyone else. A mini library with some fiction and magazines, and a television set are appropriate.
Bathing/Toilet Facilities
For the convenience of guests, the bathroom/washroom can be attached to the room itself, or should be independent of any other room. A big bathroom is not necessary and neither is a tub (though if provided, it is always welcome and considered a luxury). A shower facility is adequate in the guest bathroom.
