Effective Home Remedies For Dry Skin
Dry skin is the most common skin problem suffered by people all across the globe. The problem worsens during winter season. The only way to take care of dry skin is to keep it hydrated and moisturized at all times.
Creams and lotions can help you deal with dry skin. However, they are expensive and might not work all the time. Natural remedies for dry skin not only work but don’t lighten your pocket as well.
Natural Remedies for Dry Skin
1. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated at all times. Drinking at least 12 glasses of water each day will ensure that body does not suffer from dehydration and the skin does not become dry. This is the simplest, cheapest and most effective of all home remedies.
2. Take Vitamin E oil and massage it on your skin every night before going to bed. You could also massage gel from Vitamin E capsules on your face at night. Wash off the oil in the morning using lukewarm water and soap. Immediately apply a body moisturizer to help the skin seal in the moisture.
3. Drinking a glass of warm milk in which a few drops of almond oil have been added will work on your skin from the inside and solve the problem of dry skin to a considerable extent.
4. Take fresh cream and add a few drops of warm milk in it. Whip the cream well and rub the whipped cream well all over your body. You could add a few drops of rose essential oil to the whipped cream for perfume. Leave the cream on your body for 20-25 minutes and then take bath with lukewarm water.
Do not use soap for washing yourself. Water will lock the moisture of the cream in the skin. Do this treatment for dry skin every alternate day to keep dryness at bay. Fresh cream is one of the best ways to keep the skin moisturized and glowing at all times.
5. Fill a bathtub with warm water, honey, cream and milk. Soak your dry skin in this luxurious water for 20 minutes. Honey is an excellent humectant that will help seal the moisture from milk and cream in the skin. Alternatively, you can rub honey-milk mixture all over the body and wash off with lukewarm water after half-an-hour. Honey is the best known natural moisturizer.
6. Take a mixture of jojoba and sesame oil and apply it on your body every day during winter to avoid incidents of dryness of skin. The two oils are also effective for treating dandruff that occurs mainly in winter.
7. Warm olive oil and rub it on your body each day before bath. When using this treatment apply soap on the body on alternate days.
8. Take oatmeal powder and fresh cream. If you don’t have fresh cream use a good moisturizing lotion. Apply the paste of oatmeal and cream all over the body and leave for 15 minutes. Rub off the paste from the body with wet hands.
Take a shower and dry yourself. The oatmeal scrub will instantly get rid of dead skin cells layers formed as a result of dryness on top of the skin surface. Getting rid of that layer will reduce the dryness and patchy appearance of skin.
9. Take glycerin and mix a little rosewater in it. Glycerin has a thick consistency and adding rosewater in it will tone it down. Rub the mixture all over the body. Perform this treatment every day after taking a shower. You can also use the mixture for moisturizing your face and hands. Glycerin and rosewater will make the skin smooth, soft and supple. The skin will also have a glow to it.
10. Take raw milk and massage the milk on your body. Wash off after 15 minutes using lukewarm water. The cream of the un-boiled milk is excellent for curing dryness of the skin.
11. Take a dollop of Vaseline each night and rub it all over your body including hands, feet, knees and elbows. Vaseline is an excellent moisturizer for treating dry skin. you will never face the problem of dry and flaky skin if you perform this treatment every day of your life. You can use Vaseline right after you finish taking your bath.
12. Do not use smoke. Smoking is bad for your skin as nicotine causes the body to lose water and become dehydrated. This makes the skin dry and dull in appearance. Same goes for caffeinated drinks and alcoholic beverages.
13. Use spices like turmeric, cumin and coriander while preparing your food. These spices are excellent for treating dry skin problems when had internally.
14. Include plenty of fresh fruits in your diet. Increase your intake of fruits like watermelon, pears and grapes that are high in water content.
15. Exercise each day to the point of sweating. When you sweat the skin releases natural oils from the sebaceous glands along with sweat. These natural oils prevent the skin from drying.
16. Sleep well. Your body and skin require at least eight hours of sleep every night in order to remain healthy. Lack of regular and proper sleep gives you plenty of skin troubles.
17. Don’t use too much of soap to clean your skin. Use soap only if you have to deal with pollution every day. If you stay at home mainly then use soap only four times a week. Use natural products like chickpea flour, oatmeal powder etc, to avoid depletion of oil from the body. Chemicals in the soap cause the skin to become dry by removing the layer of body’s natural oil.
18. Don’t use hot water for cleaning the skin. Hot water has the same effect as chemicals in soaps. Hot water removes the protective layer of body’s natural oils from the surface of the skin leaving it dull and dry.
19. Don’t take stress. Majority of skin disorders are a result of undue stress and increase in anxiety levels. Many people have noticed that when they stopped stressing their skin problems also went away in a matter of time.
