dry-skin-remedyDry skin is a result of less moisture content in the skin. There are times when such skin type is inherited by your mother or father. There can be various other reasons for the loss of moisture from the skin as well. It can be because of the less number of sweat glands in our body and at times the skin is just not able to hold enough water that is essential to keep the skin moisturized at all times.

There are some people who experience dry skin, as they grow older. There are a number of environmental reasons as well that are responsible for dry skin. We can get dry skin because of the low humidity content in the air. Then heaters and air conditioners are also a culprit in removing the humidity from the air, making the skin dry and itchy.

If you thought that staying in water would keep that skin well hydrated then you are in for a surprise. It has been seen that if you stay too long in the hot shower or a tub then it can lead to further drying of the skin. The hot showers can remove the vital oils from the skin, which helps it to keep moisturized.

If you are in a habit of washing you hands and face frequently then remember to use soap or wash that has anti-pruritic agents like the oatmeal or pine oil. Remember to always pat dry the skin and not rub it vigorously.

In this article we offer you some simple home remedies that can whipped from your store cupboard and is very beneficial for treating dry skin.

It has been found out that hands are more prone to the abrasion that leads to dry skin. This can be avoided; we suggest that you use baking soda in the dishwasher. You can even use this magic ingredient in your bath. Mix around four tablespoons of baking soda with water and apply it on the skin. This provides relief from the itching, which is mostly caused by the dry skin. If you prefer a tub bath then add around one cup of baking soda to the hot water and stay in it for at least about 30 minutes.

If you do not want to use baking soda then cornstarch can also be soothing to dry and itchy skin. Just remember that it should not be used more than a handful.

Dry skin can get smoothness by using salt. You just have to massage some salt onto the wet skin in a shower or a bath. This helps in removing the dry and flaky skin from the surface, giving way to the softer skin.

If you have got chapped hands then this will give you a softer pair of hands by morning. Wash and dry the hands completely by pat drying them and then apply vinegar on them. Put a pair of soft cotton gloves and then leave them overnight.

Oatmeal is not nutritional to eat only but is an excellent source of vitamin E that can be extremely beneficial in treating dry skin. You can add instant oatmeal to the bathing water. Try using wet oatmeal to wash your hands rather than the soap. You will be surprised by the result.

If your skin itches at times then soak a cloth in milk and keep it on the face for about five to seven minutes. Milk has some anti-inflammatory properties in it that helps the skin to stop itching.

If you suffer from dryness in your whole body, then this will be very useful. Make a body lotion by mixing the pulp of apricot, banana, cucumber, mango and avocado in cow milk. Apply it as and when required.

There are some researchers who believe that vegetable oil especially peanut and sunflower oil can help in relieving dryness if applied directly on the body.

This will prevent you from having dryness in the skin. Take a cup of hot water and add a few drops of peppermint, calendula and chamomile before you go to sleep. The vapors from these will help you to soothe the dryness.

There are a few ways in which you can save the skin form getting dry. Hands are one of the first things that get chapped and dry remember to put rubber gloves when you are ding the dishes, cleaning the floor and dusting.

You have to remember to have a lot of water during the day. It is important one has to remember to have at least eight to ten glasses of water everyday. This is one of the most effective remedies against dryness. Try and avoid long baths in the warm or hot water as this can strip your body of some vital oils.
