    Dressing Right For Your Body Shape

    Most of us look at ourselves in the mirror and crib about some or the other fault in our body such as narrow hips, large belly or small breast. The truth is that no women, even the famous lingerie models, have faultless bodies. However, with the right choice of clothing, it is possible to hide those flaws and emphasize on the best features more that others.

    The women’s body can broadly be categorized into 5 different shapes depending on the proportions of their waist, hips and bust. Let us try to understand what kinds of clothing are suitable for which particular body shape.

    Banana

    When the measurement of the hips and bust is almost equal and the waist is not clearly defined, it is said to be a banana / rectangle body shape. In this body shape, the difference between the measurements of the waist and hips is below nine inches. Usually, women with this body shape have slim legs and arms with a small bust size, though there may be fuller versions too.

    Women with this body shape should go for semi-fitted clothes, girly skirts and feminine dresses. Avoid wearing dresses that are too clingy. Wear draped and wrap dresses for defining the waist prominently. Wear coats, cardigans and shirts with belts around the waist. To get the ultra feminine look, go for beads, laces, ruffles and halters.

    Pear

    When the measurement of the hips is a minimum of 2 inches greater than that of the bust, with a well defined waist, it is said to be a triangle or pear body. These women usually have medium size bust and narrow shoulders.

    Therefore, you need to add volume to your upper body by adding accessories and other details. For women of this shape, wrap dresses are the best option as they emphasize the bust line, define the waist and hide your thighs and hips. Broaden upper body using neck embellishments, shoulder pads and big lapels. Wear short sleeved tops with straight skirts. Avoid back pockets, side pockets or front pleats as they add volume to the lower body.

    Heart

    Women with heart shaped body are those with a bust larger than hips and well defined waist. Wear low necklines to divert attention from upper part of the body. Wear three quarter sleeves, tulip and A-line skirts or flared pants. Avoid wearing big collars, spaghetti straps, ruffles or neck embellishments.

    Apple

    Women who appear round in the torso region with large stomach and undefined waist are said to have an apple figure. Wear necklaces and earrings to draw eyes towards the face and shoulders. Wear monotone clothing for an illusion and longer and slimmer body. Avoid fitted clothing as well as belts, front pleats and tucked-in tops.

    Hourglass

    Hourglass is considered to be the best body shape for women with equal hip and bust measurements with a narrow waist. Such figures should be flaunted by wearing the right kind of dresses. Go for fitted or semi-fitted clothing. Scooped or V-necks are the best options. Go for dresses with defined waistlines like chiffon dresses with corsets. Don’t hide your curves by wearing baggy clothing.
