Domestic Violence
The incidence of domestic violent is rampant across all cities. It is no longer relegated to the small towns and villages but is also being done in well-educated families. Domestic violence is any kind of violence by family members on others within a household. It could be violence towards a spouse, a child or a parent. Under no circumstances is domestic violence justified and should not be tolerated by anyone.
Domestic violence scars people very badly. The perpetrator (doer) gets away with inflicting the violence but the victim suffers great trauma. Aggression is a very commonly used method of venting anger. Hitting someone, especially a weaker opponent, is the easiest thing to do. In a fit of anger, the hand is lifted immediately to strike the opponent.
In majority of the cases, domestic violence is between spouses. The husband often strikes the wife when they quarrel over some issues. The level of violence can be minimal (slap or external injury) or major (acid throwing or murder). In some Third-world Countries, domestic violence takes the form of dowry-deaths or bride-burning wherein the husband and his family resort to violence to demand greater dowry (marriage gifts and endowments) from the bride. The First World Countries are also renowned for their levels of domestic violence. Here, the case may not be dowry-related but could be due to other issues like extra-marital affairs or excessive drinking.
Violence towards children can also be termed as domestic violence. When a father rapes his own daughter within the confines of his home, it is termed as domestic violence. Child beating, in any form, is also a case of domestic violence. Parents often take out their frustration and anger on their children through violence towards them. Parents often hit/slap their child as a disciplinary measure, and this too, can be termed as domestic violence if the incidences are too many.
Those indulging in domestic violence often regret it later when the harm has already been done. Apart from physical injury, instances of domestic violence create irreparable emotional injury to self and create feelings of insecurity and fear in the victim.
