Our body is constantly processing food. We may eat at various times of the day, but our bodies work round the clock to assimilate and digest this food. While some types of food are digested easily, others take over six hours to be completely absorbed. Hence, at some point, our digestive system will revolt! When this revolt happens, we suffer from various gastric ailments.
Upset Stomach or Indigestion
This is the simplest of digestive disorders and can be caused simply by overeating. Our body is unable to process the food properly and we get stomach cramps and, maybe, loose motions. These two symptoms together comprise the situation of an ‘upset stomach’.
Bacterial Infection
Food that has not been cleaned and cooked properly can cause bacterial infections in our stomach. Bacteria enter our digestive system and play havoc with its normal functioning. Some infections bring on a fever and weaken the body.
Constipation is a situation when there are no bowel movements and can be a one-off situation or can be a case of chronic constipation. During constipation, the stomach feels tight and hard, often with griping pain. There is difficulty in passing bowel movements. Chronic constipation can create fissures in the anal tract and anal opening. These fissures are like cracks along the opening which have been caused by hardened bowel movements. The fissures remain raw for a period of time, and pain whenever a bowel movement happens. Over time, and with medication, these fissures do heal.
Ulcers are lacerations inside the digestive tract and are often found in the intestines. These are caused by severe infections and are like open wounds. Hence, they tend to cause a burning sensation when food is being digested.
Gastric Reflux
An ailment that is difficult to identify is gastric reflux. This is a situation wherein the food moves up the food tract rather than down into the digestive system and causes varied symptoms of acidity manifested through nausea, dizziness, burning in the chest, etc.
