Different Ways to Find your Life Partner
The popular proverb states that ‘marriages are made in heaven’, but in reality they are made by the two persons who are married to each other. A marriage can happen only if the two persons involved wish to marry each other, and not otherwise. However, there are various ways in which a person may meet his/her life partner.
Falling in Love
Two people may meet, fall in love and decide to marry each other. The decision to marry comes after a period of dating during which each person gets to know the other, and they decide that they would like to spend their life together by sanctifying their union by marrying one another. Within love marriages itself, there are two forms, namely, eloping and a love-arranged marriage.
Eloping is usually resorted to when the couple gets married against the wishes of their parents, and in defiance they elope (run away) and get married. Love-arranged marriage refers to a situation whereby the couple met, fell in love and obtained the blessings of their parents. The parents play an active role in arranging (and maybe even funding) the marriage.
Arranged Marriage
This is an alliance that happens through the family channel. The parents actively seek spouses for their children through family (known) channels. Meetings are organised first between the families concerned, photographs of the girl and boy are exchanged, and thereafter, if the match seems good, arrangements are made for the boy and girl to meet.
Such meetings are generally held in a neutral place like a mediators home, or even in a public place, whereby the girl and boy are given some time to interact (albeit under supervision). If they like each other after the initial meeting, then some more meetings may follow between the boy and girl for them to get to know one another better. In some countries like India, horoscopes of the boy and girl are also matched.
Sourced through the Internet/ Newspapers
Very often, spouses are found through marriage bureaus, newspaper matrimonial advertisements or internet sites. Here, the individual may do the searching/identifying by himself/herself, or the family may do it.
