Diet Soda – Is It Really Bad For Us?
We generally look at what we eat and totally forget to notice what we drink, whenever we check our diet. If we examine closely, we will be surprised to know that we consume hundreds of calories by drinking one thing or the other; and diet soda is one of them.
According to some dieticians, drinking sensible amount of diet soda, say one or two can may not cause any harm to your health. According to them, though diet soda contains artificial sweetener and some other chemicals, yet they are safe for most of us. Some types of diet soda available in market are even equipped with vitamins and minerals. But still, we should not consider diet soda as a health drink or solution for weight loss. There is no doubt that switching to diet soda from regular sodas may reduce your calorie intake. It is also true that most sodas, be it regular or diet, that are available in the market now a days aren’t that healthy as they should be. This is not good enough, because in western societies many people drink lots of soda on a regular basis resulting in obesity and many other health problems. Drinking diet soda may be better than regular soda, but there are abundant healthier drinks to choose from.
You can start your day with fresh lemon and honey drink. A glass of fruit juice can be another healthier option. Drink skimmed milk, green tea, drink water mixed with cranberry or lemon juice. There is no harm in drinking diet soda occasionally. It is correct that diet soda contains much less sugar than regular sodas and most of them are made using artificial sweeteners, but they are too acidic and can damage our teeth.
Many people while drinking this type of unhealthy drink yearn for snacks. And these snacks are mostly full of calories, so quick snacks lead them to put on more weight. Aspartame, a kind of sweetener is mostly used to flavor diet soda. There are strong opinions concerning the side effects of this chemical on human health. Some people believe that it can lead to cancer but there is hardly any proof to justify it. Currently it has been declared safe by FDA.
It is a fact that diet soda, does not contribute anything to your health. So try to stay away.
