freshskinCurettage & cautery is a surgery method of treating the skin problems with the use of heat. This method is used on the skin lesions where the lesion it removed by the use some equipment. You have nothing to do with it the task of your dermatologist. Another name for Curettage & cautery is electro surgery.

The treatment is very painful so some injection is generally used to reduce the sensation and other problems. All the area around the affected skin area would be left with no such felling of pain and then the treatment is started. Even after taking the injection some people complain about slight pain but that would not be much severe. It would feel like some slight thing is being pushed inside.

The surgical equipment that is used is shaped almost like a spoon but its edges are really very sharp. It is quite hard but is used with gentle hands so the pain gets reduced to a much greater extent. With the use of this particular tool the lesion or the affected area of skin is peeled off. The skin removal itself means the removal of infected area which is actually creating problems inside and might lead to other severe problems.

This surgical method involves great amount of risk and so generally doctors require a written consent from the patient which means that you are sole responsible if the treatment would do any harm to your skin.

The method of Curettage & cautery is not appropriate if the affected area is hard. It generally or to be more correct it perfectly works where the skin is slightly softer. May be the area around it might be hard but the lesion at least should be soft. Another specification for the use of this method is that some natural space or the natural cleavage plain should be there between the tissues and the lesion. This is one of the basic requirements for the use of this technique.

This treatment can treat problems like viral warts, skin tags, solar keratoses, pyogenic granuloma. Apart from them there are some other problems also which can be treated with the use of the technique of Curettage & cautery. They are Bowen’s diseases, Seborrheic keratoses, Keratoacanthoma etc.

One of the most common detected after effect of this treatment is tender feeling and slight pain over the wound which might continue for around two to three hours. But this may not give you any sort of sever feelings as a slight feeling of drowsiness is still there. Apart from this in some cases people have to suffer from continuous bleeding. If you are facing the same thing then use cloth, roll it and apply it over the wound.

Keep pressing it for some time. This will help in stopping the bleeding and would also be helpful in getting relived from pain. If the situation continues to be the same then call your doctor immediately. Your wound might be cover with dressing so do not press or move it again and again. Keep it in that very position for at least 24 hours.  Do not give a wash over your wound within the next 2days. You’ll have to take many precautions for this. Try to keep it dry for this particular time and then wash it off if you are really willing to do it.

There are cases where the wound becomes worse in look and also becomes more and more painful and red in colour as well. In cases like this immediate medical advice it required for the patient. Bandage and dressing might be used but there is no usage of stitching after the use of the treatment of Curettage & cautery. Even after the treatment is over the problem might continue to create problems for you for at least 3-4 weeks. You skin would look better after some days and till then the skin might look reddish in colour.
