CO2 Laser
CO2 laser is the technique of treating skin problems by the use of laser. It is also known as carbon dioxide laser treatment where the thermal energy is applied to the affect portion of the skin. The procedure is such that the upper most layer of the skin which is affected or is damaged is removed on first account and the below area is left for re-growth. This re-growth would be another layer of fresh skin which is free of diseases. The surgeon would perform the technique of resurfacing the skin that would help in eliminating the wrinkles and fine line that are present on the skin. There would be an entire removal of this area of the skin and the skin which would not grow would be healthy.
Nowadays the technique of co2 laser resurfacing is getting replaced by the latest technologies where the light beams are being used. These light beams are either scattered by the use of different tools or are pulsed depending upon the level of severity of the disease. It’s quite possible that the patient’s skin might be exposed to extreme heat which is very much harmful. So in this case the risk factor would be extremely minimised. After the emergence of latest trends the technique has become much more powerful in treating various problems which was never done before. This is the case with the proper removal of the badly affecting tissues.
As a result most of the problems like fine lines and wrinkles are reduced quickly and effectively. It sometimes acts as an anti aging treatment but this feature is not detected in all the cases. The areas on which co2 laser can be easily performed and would result in providing efficient results is over the entire face on the uppermost layer of the skin, some specific areas around the mouth and the eyes.
What happens is that an injection is basically used for providing medication at the affected portion of the body. The medicine which is to be inserted is filled inside it and then it is released wherever the problem is deeply situated. Most of the discomfort would be released then and there. This is in case where the treatment is being given on the skin around the mouth and the eyes. But if the treatment is being practiced over the entire face only a special type of anaesthesia is recommended to be used. It is general or intravenous anaesthesia which can treat the skin problems on the face. It is used for providing thermal injury to the portions where the skin is almost open without any effective covering. The effect of this is that the skin is exposed to various amounts of side effects which are generally not expected in other kinds of skin treatments.
Even with the existence of side effects still the treatment is an effective one as there are no such complications is treating the problem which are always aligned with the side effects in other types of treatments. Some of the commonly found side effects are tightness in the skin especially around areas which are very close to the part being treated. The patient might have to suffer through pain after the treatment gets over etc. It would not be true to say that there would not be any kind of complications as some minimum amount of complications is also found in every treatment so is the case with co2 laser resurfacing.
Complications that are often found in various cases are hyper pigmentation, contact dermatitis pimples and acne around the areas being treated, formation of milia, inflammation of the skin and rosacea exacerbation. In some cases the complications are slightly higher. Some of them are prolonged healing, infection of the bacteria and other virus and delay is hypopigmentation. If the treatment is not started on time then the problem might get much more chronic and it will result in causing permanent scars on the skin and even the problem of dys-pigmentation.
