What parents can do?
When the baby starts pulling himself up, holding furniture or trying to put his first step, he or she is bound to fall and occasionally hit their tooth. If any such situation occurs, first check out that baby has no other injury. If baby has bleeding gums, apply pressure with a wet cloth. Apply ice to limit the swelling and pain. Call the doctor if the injury is serious. If the tooth turns grey, it means there is bleeding inside the tooth. Doctors can treat this discoloration by bleaching method and restore natural look.
If your baby hits a tooth but his teeth and gums are looking fine and the baby is not crying continuously due to pain, then there is no need for dental check up. But if the baby’s tooth is loose, chipped or cracked and your baby is in great pain, rush to doctor immediately. If the tooth is chipped, but is not bothering your baby, still then you must see your dentist, because they know better whether the tooth needs filling or patching.
Some Parents believe that baby teeth are not so important. But baby teeth are equally important because it helps the child to eat and speak. It also holds a spot in the mouth for permanent teeth to come. So if a baby’s tooth gets knocked out, it may not be a great problem; still you must see your dentist to avoid any kind of problem when the permanent tooth arrives.
