Caring for your Jewellery
Adorning yourself with jewelry is something both sexes indulge in, be it necklaces or earrings, bracelets or rings or anklets. It’s unlikely to find anyone without even one piece of jewelry.
It may be made from precious or semi precious metals or stones or just you pick off from a thrift store. Just like garments they too need to be cleaned frequently and taken care of so that they retain their shine and luster and they last longer.
First and foremost store your jewelry made from semi precious or precious metals and stones and costume jewelry separately. For cleaning jewelry you can use special cleaning products, cleaning cloth or toothpaste. Tooth paste works on all types of jewelry and is recommended by many experts.
Jewelry needs to be wiped after every usage, to remove the remnants of makeup and body oils from it. Remove the jewelry before you do hands on tasks like cleaning, gardening etc.
Store the jewelry away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not wear jewelry while bathing or swimming, the water and chlorine will spoil the hardest of all metals. Also while dressing up wear your jewelry right at the end so that hairspray and make up doesn’t affect them.
Necklaces can be cleaned using jewelry cleaner and a cloth. Since the design on a necklace is very intricate they need to be wiped and buffed up carefully. Necklaces strung on silk thread should be stored flat since silk has a tendency to stretch.
The stone on a ring tends to get cloudy and unnoticeable, this is because of cream , dirt and soap build up. Rings that do not have natural stones embedded in them can be dipped in special cleaning chemicals and washed thoroughly in cold water or cleaned with a tooth brush dipped in toothpaste.
While buying bracelets by those are flexible and don’t break easily, since it is worn on the wrist which is moves around a lot. They tend to get scratched, dented and bent easily so care should be taken while wearing them.
Earring should be stored in the boxes they come in and be cleaned after every use. They can be cleaned with the help of chemicals or by placing them in warm water and brushing. The embedded stones should be checked frequently, to confirm they are not loosened.
In most part of the world jewelry is considered to be an investment and loads of money is spent in purchasing the best jewelry in the market. Giving them proper care will ensure your investment stays safe for a long time.
