Candles as Wedding Favors
If you don’t mind the challenge of working on a little craft project, you can try your hand at making candles. What better way to say “Thank you” to your guests than giving them something that looks pretty and can be used as well. If you already know how to make candles and have done it before, then this little project may be just what you need to add a special touch to your favors.
If you’ve never tried making candles before, but find the idea appealing, make sure that you have a little time on your hands. You can either enroll for a candle making class in your area or you can do a little bit of research online or look up some candle making books and try out something simple first. There are many wonderful books and DIY kits available at craft and hobby stores that you can look at. Do remember to take all the necessary precautions while you are working on this project.
It is amazing what you can do with a little wax and some inspiration. There are a number of types of candles that you can consider making. The first type of candles you can look at are called paraffin wax candles, these can be made in a number of shapes, sizes, colors and you can also try different fragrances specially meant for this craft and make it an aromatic candle.
You also have gel candles that use gel wax, a wick or containers, gel wax coloring and some embellishments. Your third type of candle is a beeswax candle, which is typically made from a sheet of beeswax. These sheets come in many colors and are textured and this will carry through and be seen in the final product.
If this seems a little overwhelming or you don’t have enough time, try something simpler. Use store bought tea light candles and votives. Decorate the votives to match the theme and color of your wedding. All you need is an ordinary glass votive and some colored or printed paper, fabric or ribbon.
Simply cut the paper into strips and stick it onto the outside of the votive to cover the sides. You can add a little ribbon or bow to dress it up as well. This results in a beautiful effect once you place the tea light candle in it and light it. Experiment with different types of paper to see which one works for you.
You can attach a little “Thank you” card or some personalized ribbon to it to finish it off. Last but not the least; please attach a candle caution label to your candle so that your guests can enjoy this little gift safely.
