Buying the Perfect Pair of Shoes
One of the best loved trips to the market is when a pair of shoes needs to be bought. Purchasing footwear brings forth a feeling of ecstasy in most women and, in the midst of this euphoria, they land up buying a pair of shoes that was either the wrong colour or did not fit well.To ensure a comfortable fit, footwear must be bought after considerable thought and trial.
Time of Day
Very often footwear is bought as a whim and fancy on the spur of the moment. However, if shoe-buying is a pre-planned activity, then it should preferably be done mid-day. In the mornings, our feet tend to be a little swollen and stiff and hence footwear that fits well in the morning may feel loose by then end of the day. Thus, footwear should ideally be bought in the middle of the day as that is the time when your feet will be their normal size.
Try and then Buy
It is imperative that footwear is tried before buying. Though shoes are made to standard sizes, these sizes differ from country to country and between manufacturers as well. Some premium brands also offer variations from the normal size, i.e., they offer half sizes and width differentials like narrow fit, regular and wide fit.
Try Both Shoes
Trying on both shoes is also necessary. Few of us realise that our feet are not identical and that they differ in shape and size from one another. It is vital to try on both shoes and walk a certain distance around the store to ensure that the footwear is comfortable. Sometimes, the length maybe right on one foot but may be small on the other. In such cases, it is better to buy a larger size and ask for an additional insole for the smaller foot.
Evaluate Level of Maintenance
We usually buy footwear on the basis of style, colour and budget, and very rarely do we evaluate the maintenance angle. This is important as it is best to avoid high maintenance shoes (like suede) as these are difficult to maintain in certain weather conditions. Whatever footwear you choose must be in concurrence with the type of weather that you will use them in.
