Bloated Stomach Causes
Bloated stomach is a very common abdominal problem that is experienced by millions of people across the globe. In this abdominal condition, the abdomen gets bloated and distends in diameter too. People with severe bloating may also experience pain in the abdomen. There can be several different causes for the bloated stomach. And in some people, bloated stomach may also indicate some underlying health problem. Some common causes for the bloated stomach are given below.
Constipation – A person who often suffers from constipation problem may also suffer from stomach bloating. This is because when the ingested food is not eliminated from the body and remains in the stomach then fermentation occurs, which leads to formation of gases. Gases thus formed enter the digestive track and exert pressure on the stomach and thus cause bloated stomach.
Swallowing Excess Air – This is one of the most common causes of bloated stomach. Swallowing of excessive air can take place when straw is used for drinking beverages, or gum is chewed more frequently. Too much talking while eating or eating while moving can also cause bloated stomach.
Consumption of Diet Products – Foods that are tagged as ‘low carb’ or ‘diet’ or ‘sugar-free’ contain the ingredients like sorbitol, mannitol, or maltitol, which produce laxative effects on the body. Therefore, bloated stomach can be caused when these foods are consumed because they give the feeling that stomach has been filled with air.
Candida – A person afflicted with Candida infection can also suffer from bloated stomach because in this case, the yeast grows and ferments in the intestine, particularly if the person does not have regular bowel movement. Fast food can deteriorate stomach bloating.
Overeating or Eating Too Fast – In modern times, man has become so busy that he does not get enough time to even eat his meal. Hence, he often gulps down food too fast and sometimes may even overeat. All these habits can lead to bloated stomach.
Intolerance To Certain Food Stuffs – Some specific food stuffs such as cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, and onions can causes bloated stomach. Certain dairy products, wheat, foods containing gluten, etc can also cause bloated stomach. You must try to identify the food to which you are intolerant. Once you become certain about the food culprit for bloated stomach, you must eliminate that food and avoid bloated stomach.
