Bathing Your Dog
Before you buy a dog, you must understand that you will have to spend some amount of time bathing your dog. If you do not want to bathe your dog regularly, buy a dog who has a lesser coat, as they tend to attract less dust.
Bathing is necessary to avoid ticks and fleas. There are special shampoos available for dogs depending on their skin conditions. Start bathing your dog withing the first week of getting him home, and get him used to it. You can try using a double drain sink for a small dog. Sometimes, very small dogs can also fit into the sink.
Wrap the dog in a towel after his bath so that he does not shake himself and splash water all over. Pat him dry and once you remove the towel, he will give himself a vigorous shake to remove excess water. Allow him to do that only after he is semi dry.
Do not put water in the eyes but wipe them after the bath. It is also necessary to cut the dog’s nails with special clippers and make sure that you do not hurt your dog in the process, as getting them to do it again will be very difficult. If you are unable to do it, go to a specialist who takes care of grooming dogs.
After the bath, use the brush to comb the coat. Do this while the dog is still a little wet, and it will make the task a lot easier. Depending on the country you live in, the number of times you need to bathe your dog in a time period will vary. Dogs do not like taking a bath, so early training is always beneficial.
When you are brushing the dog, make sure you brush the legs as well as the tail. Special equipment is available for grooming. There are different combs available for different breeds. For some breeds, you may need the wire toothed comb. Always make sure that you do not injure the dog even while grooming his coat. It is easier to have a dog with less hair, as they require less combing.
