Having sound teeth without any dental problem is everyone’s dream. However, very few people experience this bliss for which good dental hygiene habits are needed to be inculcated from the very beginning. Even when your baby’s teeth are not grown, make sure to wipe his gums with a soft cloth after every feeding. With his age, such habits of dental hygiene should be modified and inculcated within him.
As soon as your child develops teeth, ask him to brush his teeth twice a day- in morning and before going to sleep at night. It’s not only the child; every adult of the family should also follow the same routine. Brushing should be done with a tooth brush having soft bristles. Though, varieties of tooth brushes are available in the market, you should ask your dentist before buying one for yourself. Keep it in mind that the cost of the tooth brush should not be the criteria of your purchase.
Fluoride contained toothpaste or mouth wash should be used to make teeth strong. However, the tooth paste should not be considered as the only resource to make the tooth enamel strong, rather healthy eating habit and good diets have also a major role in it. Acid forming bacteria are the main actor in causing dental problems like decay, cavities and gums problems. We can’t just rule out these bacteria, which are natural to be formed after eating. However, we can look for ways to minimize them. And the way out is to avoid foods which are high in starch and sugar.
If you are using any kind of dental appliances then they must be cleaned twice a week to ensure yourself dental hygiene. Apart from that make it habit that you should visit a dentist at least once in six months.
