Avoid Junk Food Temptations when You are Travelling
We live lives that are surrounded by stress which leads us to taking solace in food. Comfort food or junk foods are those that normally lower stress levels. Foods like donuts, sweets, chocolates, sweet beverages and fried foods fall in the category of comfort food or junk food.
Most families are now getting cautious about the risks of eating junk food and are now beginning to move towards a healthier diet. While it is possible to monitor ones diet at home, school and the office it becomes difficult to stay away from it while travelling for the mere fact that the food is freely available almost everywhere.
There are several precautions that you can take to avoid being tempted by junk food when you are travelling. The biggest issue is that when we travel we don’t eat to satisfy our hunger we eat to overcome boredom. An easy way to overcome this is to keep yourself occupied when you are travelling. Read a book or listen to music or simply enjoy the scenic nature around you.
If you expect to be travelling for a long duration then you must pack a few healthy snacks. Pack snacks like oats cookies, protein bas, nuts and cereal in re-sealable bags so that you can snack on them at regular intervals.
Fruits are a great accompaniment when you are travelling. Pack bananas, oranges and other fruits that you and your family enjoy. This is a great way to snack on healthy food and avoid binging on any unhealthy foods.
A good way to prevent drinking aerated beverages is to carry a cooler with you. Carry some milk for your cereal, packs of fruit juices, Jello and water. Add healthy fruits and vegetables in your cooler to help you snack on some crunchy delights while you are on the go.
If you are driving a long distance then you must stock up on snacks at supermarkets instead of a convenient store at the gas station. At the supermarket you will get access to the freshest veggies and fruits.
If you are having lunch on dinner along the way then look out for a place that offers you sandwich options where you can pick your own veggies and accompaniments to add to the sandwich. Here you can swap the mayo for mustard and always opt for whole grain bread (brown) rather than white bread.
So you see, it is not difficult to eat healthy food even when you are on the go.
