acne-cyst-300x225Acne is a skin problem which is very common and millions of people across the globe are affected by it. It is commonly seen among the teenagers but it also affects people in their 30s and 40s as well. Acne mostly appears on the face but at times it also appears on the neck, hand, back and chest. One of the biggest side effects of acne is the low self esteem, which most people tend to suffer from it. The biggest challenge that acne presents to anyone is to get rid of the scars that is left behind.

Acne scars are mostly caused when the acne has been either squeezed or pinched by the person. In some cases severe acne can also leave a mark behind. There is no telling whether your acne will leave a scar or not by just looking at it. There are times when the scar can take up to one year to heal completely and there are instances when they do not fade at all. The latter type of scars needs to be treated by a dermatologist. The other can be treated by the various over the counter products.

The acne that has an inflammation is most likely to leave a scar behind. The main cause of the scar is the increase or decrease in the tissue formation.

Acne can leave a scar when there is an increase tissue formation. The increase of the tissue formation is caused by the build up of collagen. These are called keloid scars. These scars are mostly genetic in nature.

The other reason for your acne leaving a scar is just the opposite. Acne can also leave a scar when there is a loss of tissue. There can be various forms of scar formed when there is a loss of tissue. These are commonly found among acne sufferers.

There are various scars caused by acne and every scar needs to be treated differently. The nature of a scar is not the same. You can consult a dermatologist who will look at the scar and then can suggest you the right treatment for it.

The first kind of scar is called a depressed fibrotic acne scar, they are mostly large scars that have sharp margins and are steep in nature. These have a striking resemblance with chicken pox. The second is a superficial acne scar; these scars can be of various sizes and have a sloping skin edge. They are mostly merged with the skin in time.

The third type is an ice pick scar; it has been given its name because it has a striking resemblance with an ice pick. These are small in diameter and have steep sides. They can be both superficial as well as deep. These can be both hard as well as well in its touch.

The last type is called atrophic macules. These are soft scars mostly in a bluish colour. These scars tend to fade with time and are hardly visible on the skin.

Acne scar can be treated and be made less visible with the right treatment. At times the mild scars fade completely with over the counter products or home remedies. There are two methods, which are chosen by dermatologists to treat acne scars. The first way is to opt for a treatment, which will fade the acne scar. The second treatment  is the complete skin rejuvenation.

Chemical peel treatment is also an effective option for removing acne scars. Peeling helps to treat the remaining acne by removing the comedones that is the blackheads and the whiteheads. The treatment has a flip side, it needs to be repeated a number of times to be effective and not all types of scars can be treated through this treatment.

One of the most common procedures used for an acne scar treatment is dermabrasion. They can be useful in treating all kinds of scars. They reach the deeper layer of the skin, which treatments like peeling is not able to reach.

The mild acne scars can be also treated with some simple home remedies. You can mix sandalwood powder with rosewater and apply this paste on the scars. Leave it overnight and wash. Turmeric is a very effective one can take this spice in their food or you can make a paste and apply it on the skin. The other effective food for blemishes is raw garlic.

If these do not help mild scars can also be treated with bleaching creams or the creams that are prescribed by dermatologists. These cream generally have an incubation period of six weeks to start showing any results.
